Local Fun: PAWS Nature Farm

Recently purchased by the Discovery Museum, Paws Discovery Farm is actually not an attraction I had heard about until a few years ago, but it has been around for quite some time. It was renovated in the purchase and features so many wonderful and fun attractions that are both inside and outside. Enter the main building to purchase tickets and you’ll find a small play area featuring a boat-shaped ball pit (that’s really my kids’ favorite part), play cabins, and so much more. There’s also a gift shop with some reasonably priced items and a party room (parties are fun there!)

Heading outside, there is a cute little “fairy garden”. We love to walk through this wooded spot and find all the gnome and fairy statues hidden in the foliage. Following the path deeper into the woods, you’ll come up to an outdoor play area: a wooden ship with a slide, small play houses, and a wooden train.

We always stop in the reptile house and see the turtles, snakes and iguana. Then walk over to the newly renovated Discovery Barnyard- it’s like a smaller version of the Discovery Museum, but filled in every corner with pretend play opportunities! Play vet, work in the market, or make a craft. You also can’t miss seeing all the farm animals- buy a bag of feed and watch the goats go crazy! End your day with a walk through the nature trail in the back of the property and check out some of the historic buildings on site.

I really like bringing my kids here because it’s all enclosed and I feel comfortable with my son running ahead or walking the Nature Trail with his friends. There is no food sold on site as of now, but there are outside picnic tables so bring your own! They always have special events going on on the weekends; they get packed during those events, so parking can be tricky.
